A while back I got the chance to shoot some images for McClane Manufacturing company in Los Angeles. They manufacture high end commercial grade mowers and lawn equipment. It was refreshing to see things are actually still built from the ground up in the USA. (well...besides the Honda motors) Every mower is constructed right in their Los Angeles, CA warehouse. From grinding and shaping the blades to mixing their own plastics. Here are a few shots from the shoot. The images are being used for a revamp of their website as well as their promotional materials and catalogs.
Mike Pinto Band ~ House of Blues San Diego, CA
I remember reading an interview with Dicky Barrett of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones when I was younger. Dicky being the outspoken front man he is said something that stuck with me and become my measuring stick on if I liked a band or not. He was saying that bands should sound like they do, or better than their albums, meaning if you can't pull it off live then why record it. One of the reasons I like the Mike Pinto Band as much as I do is because their live performance supersedes their recordings. And that isn't saying their recordings are bad (the production on their new EP The West is Still Wild is excellent)
That being said....there is something about feeling the bass rock your chest, feeling the drums rumble through the venue, the intricacies of the singers voice, no recording will ever triumph the live performance. (unless you like techno. Then you aren't a human being and this doesn't apply to you)
Below are some shots from their EP release party at the House of Blues in San Diego. A few shots are from backstage before they went on. People have a perception of what goes on before a band hits the stage and I think a lot people have the drug, sex rock n'roll mantra stuck in their head. When in reality these guys are doing scale warmups, going over the set list and the best pre-show pep talk I have heard from Mike himself.
These first two shots are from the opening bands Seedless and Shoreline Rootz. I just thought they were cool so I wanted to post them.

San Diego 3 Day Breast Cancer Walk - A Thank You.
Thank you doesn't really cover the whole realm of appreciation I have towards all of my friends, family, and clients that donated towards my wife's goal of raising funds for breast cancer awareness and research via the Susan G. Komen Foundation and their 3 Day walk through San Diego over this past weekend.
There are times in life when life itself is put in perspective. When my wife first told me she wanted to participate in the 3 Day walk I was all for it. It is the reason I created the donation special for photo sessions earlier this year. I have been a part of fundraisers and donations before and I love being able to offer something I can do that will help someone else out. When the time for the walk finally came up there were a few things I was not prepared for. On Friday I took the kids down to cheer for their mom. We got out of the car at La Jolla Cove and the first one walked by me. A younger woman carrying a sign that simply said, "I miss you Mom" with a photo of her mother on it, a photo of a woman that didn't win her battle. Then an older gentleman walked by with his two sons. Each of them wearing the same shirt with the same photo and across the top of the shirt read "Walking in her shoes"
It then hit me. Sure the purpose of the 3 Day walk is to raise funds to cancer research and prevention. But what this weekend is to a lot of our fellow families in the community is a day to remember the moms and daughters and friends that are no longer with us due to this decease. Thousands of people come together to not only remember the ones that they lost, but also a celebration of their life. And while not one person can do everything to figure out an answer to the ugliness of cancer, this weekend proves that everyone can do something in order to prevent another family from losing someone they love. When it comes to a life. When it comes to your mother or your sister or your daughter, if 3,500 thousand people walking for 60 miles and raising $9 million dollars only saves one life.....isn't that worth it?
As long as something can be done, my wife and myself will be there year after year doing what we can to help those that need it. Look out for another donation special early in 2012 with a few extra special ideas thrown in there.
From myself and my wife, a tremendous thank you to everyone!
Free Family Mini-Sessions For Military Families - Sunday Nov. 13th
My Grandfather fought the Nazi's in the invasion of Africa and stormed the beaches of Normandy on D-Day. My Father is a Marine Corps. Veteran who fought in the jungles of Vietnam. Taking the time to really show my appreciation for the men and women of the military is not something I believe is done by just getting a day off of work. The holidays are arriving upon us with lighting quick speed and I understand that there are Americans in places right now that are hell. They are facing fears that I could never imagine as I type this posting from a heated building and in a comfortable chair knowing that in a 10 minute drive I will see my wife and children. I know that my family is protected by the best and bravest to ever walk the face of the earth. This Sunday 13th, from 10am to Noon, I will be hosting free family mini photo sessions for any members of the military to attend at Harry Griffin Park in La Mesa. Each family will receive around a 15-20 minute photo session (hence the "mini") Since there is a time constraint, I will only be able to host 5 families.
Anyone interested in attending, please shoot me an email at ryan@ryandaleyphotography.com
Each family will receive an online gallery link of their images. The gallery will allow you or any friends and family to download the edited images from the session. Each session should have around 10 edited images to choose from.
